Chandigarh: Renault India, a wholly owned subsidiary of the French automaker Renault Group, has launched the new Renault Kiger, its refreshed sub-four-metre compact SUV, with more than 35 upgrades across design, technology, safety, and performance. Developed under the company’s “Rethink Performance” philosophy, the new Kiger aims to redefine expectations in the highly competitive compact SUV segment, which today accounts for nearly 50% of SUV sales in India and 31% of the overall passenger vehicle market.

Fresh Design with Strong Road Presence
The updated Renault Kiger comes with renewed exterior styling. At the front, a bold new grille integrates with a sculpted hood and updated LED headlamps. Redesigned front and rear bumpers, along with refreshed fog lamps and taillamps, add to its striking visual appeal.
The SUV rides on 16-inch diamond-cut evasion alloy wheels, while skid plates, blacked-out ORVMs, and C-pillar decals give it a sporty character. A prominent TURBO badge differentiates the high-performance variants.
The launch also introduces two new colour options — Oasis Yellow and Shadow Grey — in addition to existing choices such as Radiant Red, Caspian Blue, Ice Cool White, Moonlight Silver, and Stealth Black. Oasis Yellow, in particular, has been developed with a special mica treatment to offer a more vibrant, eye-catching effect.
Together, these changes reflect Renault’s effort to project the Kiger as a youthful, stylish, and expressive SUV designed to attract aspirational Indian buyers.
Premium Cabin Experience
Inside, Renault has focused on enhancing comfort and perceived quality. The dual-tone dashboard, newly designed door trims, and ventilated leatherette seats offer a premium feel. Stitching details on the gear knob, steering wheel, and armrest further elevate the cabin’s aesthetic.
The car now features enhanced insulation materials under the hood, floor, and dashboard, reducing noise and vibrations inside the cabin. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated AC vents, improved airflow, and more efficient cooling, ensuring greater comfort during Indian summers.
Practicality remains a strong point, with class-leading boot space of 405 litres, 29 litres of in-cabin storage, and best-in-segment knee room and couple distance. Renault’s focus is clear: delivering an SUV that combines stylish looks with everyday usability.
Technology and Connectivity
Renault has also upgraded the Kiger’s tech suite to cater to today’s connected lifestyles. A new multi-view camera system offers real-time visibility from multiple angles, making parking and manoeuvring in tight city spaces easier.
Other new features include automatic headlamps and rain-sensing wipers, designed to provide convenience during unpredictable weather and road conditions.
At the centre of the dashboard sits a 20.32 cm floating touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Complementing this is the premium ARKAMYS® 3D surround sound system with six speakers, offering an immersive in-cabin audio experience.
Additional features like a cooled glove box, multiple USB charging points, and a unique “Belongings Take Away” alert system underline Renault’s emphasis on practical innovation for Indian customers.
Turbocharged Performance and Efficiency
Performance remains at the heart of the new Kiger’s identity. The SUV comes with two petrol engine options:
-
A 100 PS turbocharged petrol engine producing up to 160 Nm torque. Despite its power, it boasts an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 20.38 kmpl, making it one of the most efficient turbocharged engines in its class.
-
A more affordable 72 PS naturally aspirated petrol engine delivering 96 Nm torque and a fuel economy of 19.83 kmpl.
To boost performance further, Renault has introduced Mirror Bore Coating technology, typically seen in high-performance racing cars. This reduces friction inside the engine cylinder, leading to improved fuel economy, greater durability, and enhanced power output.
Drivers can select from Eco, Normal, and Sport driving modes to match different road conditions and driving preferences.
Multiple Transmission Options
To cater to different buyer needs, the Kiger offers a wide range of transmissions:
-
A 5-speed manual gearbox for driving purists.
-
Easy-R AMT for budget-conscious buyers seeking convenience in city traffic.
-
An advanced X-Tronic CVT with D-Step technology for smoother and more responsive acceleration, eliminating the “rubber-band effect” typically associated with CVTs.
This wide variety ensures the Kiger appeals to both young first-time SUV buyers and experienced drivers seeking performance and refinement.
Safety: Raising the Segment Standard
Safety has been significantly upgraded in the new Kiger. The SUV now comes with 21 standard safety features across all variants, including:
-
6 airbags (front, side, and curtain)
-
Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
-
Traction Control System (TCS)
-
Hill Start Assist (HSA)
-
ISOFIX child seat anchorage
-
3-point seat belts for all passengers
-
Tyre pressure monitoring system
-
Pedestrian protection features
Built on the proven CMFA+ platform, the Kiger is engineered for strong crash safety. Renault’s Human First Program has guided these enhancements, ensuring occupants enjoy peace of mind on every drive.
