Reliance’s teams, including Reliance Foundation, Jio, Reliance Retail, and Vantara, have been working on the ground shoulder-to-shoulder with the state administration, panchayats, and local stakeholders for the past few weeks through a 10-point response plan for 10,000 families in the most-affected villages of Amritsar and Kapurthala following needs assessment and discussions with communities and the government. Till date over 10,500 people have been reached through the multi-pronged efforts.

Food and nutrition, hygiene and emergency shelter essentials were distributed to about 80 families in Sangra, Mund Mubarakpur, and Akalpur in Sultanpur Lodhi block of Kapurthala district, where waterlogging continues to make access challenging; many such these villages are accessible only through tractors or boats. The essential relief kits would help address the food requirements of an entire household, ensure upkeep of personal hygiene and help in setting up temporary shelters. A Public Health Risk Management (PHRM) session was also organised to sensitize communities and enhance public health awareness.

In addition to ensuring availability of material essentials for the entire household, Reliance Foundation, in coordination with the health authorities, are running an extensive PHRM campaign to help communities mitigate public health risks like water-borne and mosquito-borne diseases in post-flood situations. Mobile-based hygiene and sanitation advisories were also disseminated. Community water filters were set up to ensure pure round-the-clock drinking water was available.

Reliance’s Multi-Pronged Response Plan

Reliance Foundation, working in tandem with Reliance Jio, Reliance Retail, and Vantara, has been on the ground in Punjab for several weeks, shoulder-to-shoulder with the state administration, panchayats, and local stakeholders. The collective efforts are part of a 10-point relief plan designed to assist 10,000 families in Amritsar and Kapurthala districts.

So far, over 10,500 people have benefitted from the outreach, which was based on needs assessments and consultations with both communities and government authorities.

The holistic response plan addresses:

  • Food & Nutrition Support

  • Emergency Shelter & Hygiene Kits

  • Public Health Risk Mitigation

  • Water Sanitation Measures

  • Livestock Care & Feed Distribution

Public Health at the Core

Reliance Foundation has worked closely with district health authorities to strengthen public health responses in flood-hit villages. The PHRM campaign emphasizes preventive healthcare, focusing on hygiene practices to combat the spread of diseases.

Dr. Rajeev Prashar, Civil Surgeon, Kapurthala, commended the Foundation’s role, stating:

“The administration is working round the clock, with the support of NGOs like Reliance Foundation, to protect people’s lives. Public health interventions are critical in post-flood situations, and this collaboration is making a real difference.”

Supporting Livestock and Livelihoods

Recognizing the importance of livestock in rural Punjab, Reliance’s relief efforts have also extended to animals and households dependent on them. Veterinary medical camps were organized to diagnose and treat sick livestock. In addition, silage distribution has been undertaken to ensure a steady supply of nutritious feed, helping to safeguard both animal welfare and the livelihoods of farmers.

These measures are expected to reduce the economic burden on families whose cattle are central to their income and daily sustenance.

A Human-Centered Relief Approach

Speaking about the relief operations, Mr. Dibyakanta Nayak, Lead – Disaster Risk Reduction, Reliance Foundation, highlighted the organization’s commitment:

“During these challenging times, we are working with empathy and care to support the people of Punjab. Our approach has been to listen to communities, assess their immediate needs, and provide targeted relief while also enabling long-term recovery.”

This initiative is part of Reliance Foundation’s larger vision of standing with communities in times of crisis and strengthening resilience against disasters.

Looking Ahead

As Punjab continues to recover from the devastating floods, Reliance’s ongoing intervention is expected to play a critical role in stabilizing the affected regions. Beyond immediate relief, the focus on health, hygiene, livestock, and clean drinking water demonstrates a commitment to sustainable recovery.

By integrating material relief with capacity building, Reliance Foundation is ensuring that communities not only survive the crisis but also emerge stronger, better prepared for future challenges.

Reliance’s coordinated response in Punjab showcases a model of corporate-community-government collaboration, where resources, expertise, and empathy converge to provide meaningful relief. The initiative, flagged off in Kapurthala today, marks another important step in the company’s continued support to over 10,000 affected families.

As families in Sultanpur Lodhi and beyond receive essentials for survival and recovery, the initiative is a reminder of how corporate social responsibility can align with disaster management, bringing timely support to those who need it most.
