New Delhi: In a significant milestone underscoring its operational resilience and efficiency, MOIL Limited, India’s largest manganese ore producer, recorded its highest-ever July production in FY’26. The company produced 1.45 lakh tonnes of manganese ore in July 2025, registering a 12% year-on-year growth over the corresponding period last year (CPLY), despite challenging weather conditions.

This robust performance comes on the back of heavy monsoon rains across key mining zones. Yet, MOIL demonstrated remarkable agility in maintaining production levels, a testament to its enhanced mine planning, automation, and improved logistical capabilities.

Strong Performance in the First Four Months of FY’26

The July feat adds to MOIL’s continued momentum this fiscal year. For the period April–July 2025, the company achieved:

  • Production of 6.47 lakh tonnes of manganese ore, reflecting a 7.8% increase compared to the same period in FY’25.

  • Sales of 5.01 lakh tonnes, up 10.7% year-on-year, showcasing both domestic demand resilience and MOIL’s strong marketing strategy.

  • Exploratory drilling of 43,215 meters, an 11.4% rise from the previous year, indicating its long-term focus on resource expansion and geological assessment.

These figures reflect a well-rounded performance not just in output, but also in sales and exploration—three key pillars of sustainable mining operations.

CMD Praises Team MOIL’s Commitment

Commenting on this achievement, Shri Ajit Kumar Saxena, Chairman and Managing Director of MOIL, congratulated the entire workforce for their unwavering dedication and commitment under challenging circumstances. “It is a proud moment for MOIL to have achieved its best-ever July production, despite adverse weather conditions. This success reflects the tireless efforts of our employees, advanced planning, and a shared vision to push the boundaries of operational excellence,” he stated.

He further emphasized MOIL’s continued focus on enhancing production capabilities, improving mechanization, and exploring new reserves to support India’s growing demand for manganese—a critical input for steel production and battery technologies.

A Strategic Resource for India’s Growth

Manganese is a vital raw material for the steel industry, and India is one of the largest consumers globally. MOIL, which contributes approximately 50% of India’s total manganese ore production, plays a pivotal role in supporting the country’s infrastructure and manufacturing growth.

With the Government of India’s push for domestic steel production under initiatives like ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, MOIL’s improved output aligns well with national priorities. Moreover, manganese is also gaining importance in the context of energy storage technologies, especially lithium-ion batteries, opening up long-term strategic opportunities.

Overcoming Monsoon Challenges

Mining activities often slow down during the monsoon season due to flooding, reduced visibility, and transport disruptions. That MOIL achieved record output in peak monsoon month is particularly noteworthy.

This performance signals successful adaptation to climate-related challenges. It highlights MOIL’s efforts in:

  • Enhancing pit drainage systems and mine dewatering techniques.

  • Deploying weather-resilient equipment and automation tools.

  • Strengthening logistics and supply chain management to avoid bottlenecks.

  • Coordinating across multiple mining units to distribute production load effectively.

These process improvements not only safeguarded operations but also enabled incremental growth during traditionally lean months.

Exploration and Future Expansion

The over 43,000 meters of exploratory drilling conducted in the first four months of FY’26 marks a strong start to the company’s resource development program. Exploration is central to ensuring the long-term mineral security of the nation.

MOIL has already identified potential mining zones in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and is working with state authorities to expedite clearances. The increase in exploration activity also supports MOIL’s plan to increase annual production to 3 million tonnes by FY2030, aligning with India’s long-term industrial roadmap.

Market and Financial Outlook

MOIL’s robust production and sales figures are expected to reflect positively in its Q2 FY26 financial results. The company had already reported healthy earnings in FY25, driven by improved realizations and cost efficiencies. With international manganese prices stabilizing and domestic demand holding firm, MOIL is positioned to maintain profitability.

Analysts tracking the stock believe the operational momentum, coupled with a strategic push for resource expansion and better mining efficiency, makes MOIL an attractive player in the public sector mining space.

Sustainability and ESG Commitment

MOIL has been increasingly aligning its mining practices with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. It has taken measures to reduce water and energy consumption, rehabilitate mined-out areas, and invest in community development in nearby tribal regions.

The company is also exploring ways to digitize mine operations, monitor emissions, and adopt green mining technologies in the years to come.

Conclusion

MOIL’s record-breaking performance in July 2025 reinforces its role as a strategic mining PSU that can deliver under pressure. By overcoming adverse weather, increasing output, and expanding exploration, the company has sent a strong signal of resilience and growth intent.

As India accelerates its push toward industrial self-reliance and infrastructure growth, MOIL’s manganese production will remain a cornerstone of the country’s steel and clean energy ambitions.
