Chandigarh – In a significant step towards expanding its global tourism footprint, the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia has signed a co-branding agreement with VFS Global, the world’s largest outsourcing and technology services specialist for governments and diplomatic missions. The collaboration aims to strengthen the global visibility of the ‘Wonderful Indonesia’ campaign, enhance international tourist arrivals, and encourage investments into the country’s flourishing tourism sector.

The agreement was signed in Jakarta on 13 August 2025 by Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy Minister for Marketing, Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia, and Mr. Kaushik Ghosh, Head – Australasia, VFS Global.

Driving Global Brand Awareness

As part of the agreement, VFS Global will play a pivotal role in increasing brand awareness of Wonderful Indonesia and improving both the quality and reach of tourism marketing. Through its global network and expertise in destination promotion, VFS Global will support Indonesia in positioning itself as one of the world’s most attractive tourist destinations.

Speaking on the partnership, Ni Made Ayu Marthini said:
“We are excited to join forces with VFS Global in strengthening the Wonderful Indonesia campaign on the global stage. Through this co-branding agreement, we will amplify our tourism message and leverage VFS Global’s extensive presence in over 160 countries, combined with innovative outreach, to inspire more travellers to experience the beauty and diversity of Indonesia.”

VFS Global’s Expanding Role in Indonesian Tourism

This is not VFS Global’s first collaboration with the Indonesian government. Since 2024, the company has been an official partner of the Directorate General of Immigration of Indonesia, helping to simplify entry processes for foreign nationals. A key initiative under this partnership has been the launch of a new e-Visa on Arrival (e-VoA) platform.

The platform, available to nationals from 97 eligible countries, provides travellers with a seamless, quicker, and user-friendly online visa application process, thereby making entry into Indonesia more convenient.

Kaushik Ghosh, Head – Australasia, VFS Global, emphasized the synergy between technology and tourism growth:
“We are honoured to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism to strengthen global awareness of the country’s vibrant tourism offerings. With over 16 years of experience in tourism-related services, VFS Global brings proven expertise in promoting destinations to a global audience. Through the promotion of the e-Visa on Arrival, we aim to make travel to Indonesia more seamless, aligning with the Ministry’s Tourism 5.0 vision to harness innovation such as artificial intelligence (AI) to improve marketing effectiveness and reach of tourist destinations.”

Record Tourist Arrivals Fuel Ambitious Goals

Indonesia’s tourism sector has witnessed robust growth in recent years. According to the Ministry of Tourism, the country welcomed 13.9 million international tourists in 2024, marking a 19% increase compared to 2023. This performance was also the highest recorded in the last five years, reflecting Indonesia’s rising popularity as a global destination.

Buoyed by this momentum, the government has set an ambitious target of attracting between 14.6 and 16 million foreign tourists in 2025.

India has emerged as a critical growth market. In 2024, 710,688 Indian travellers visited Indonesia, making India the largest market in South and Central Asia and the sixth largest globally for Indonesia. For 2025, the Ministry expects this number to rise significantly to 918,480 Indian visitors.

Strengthening Promotional Outreach

Since March 2023, VFS Global has been closely working with the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism to expand the reach of the Wonderful Indonesia campaign. Dedicated tourism promotion kiosks have already been established at VFS Global offices in Dubai, Mumbai, and Shanghai, with an additional kiosk planned for Australia.

Through these centres, VFS Global aims to connect with potential travellers in key international markets, including India, China, Australia, South Korea, Japan, the Middle East, UK, USA, Canada, and France.

By tapping into VFS Global’s vast presence in over 160 countries, Indonesia intends to build a strong international tourism identity, reaching both emerging and traditional travel markets.

VFS Global’s Tourism Services Unit

VFS Global has steadily diversified its operations beyond its core visa services, establishing a strong presence in tourism promotion and destination representation. With over 16 years of experience in tourism-related services, the company has partnered with more than 25 global destinations, providing outsourced tourism office management, trade support services, and promotional activities.

Its dedicated Tourism Services Unit collaborates with national tourism authorities to help them achieve their travel and tourism marketing objectives. These services include everything from on-ground representation to digital campaigns, travel trade engagement, and investment promotion.

For Indonesia, this expertise is expected to be crucial in achieving its Tourism 5.0 vision, which leverages innovation, artificial intelligence, and data-driven strategies to maximize the reach and effectiveness of marketing efforts.

Looking Ahead

The co-branding partnership between VFS Global and the Indonesian Tourism Ministry marks a new chapter in the Wonderful Indonesia campaign. As the SIT-backed initiative grows in scale, it promises not only to increase international tourist arrivals but also to attract global investment into Indonesia’s vibrant hospitality and tourism infrastructure.

With ambitious targets, a robust strategy, and global partnerships, Indonesia is positioning itself as one of the fastest-growing tourism destinations in Asia, offering travellers an unparalleled mix of culture, natural beauty, adventure, and hospitality.
