New Delhi: Indian Railways has successfully transported over 1.5 crore passengers during the current festive season, with the number expected to cross 2.5 crore by the end of the period. With major festivals like Chhath Puja underway, the Railways has implemented an extensive range of passenger-friendly measures to manage crowds, ensure cleanliness, and enhance travel comfort—earning overwhelming appreciation from passengers nationwide.
To facilitate smooth passenger movement, especially those returning home for festivities, 30 key railway stations across Bihar and adjoining Uttar Pradesh have been equipped with large holding areas. These facilities are designed to prevent overcrowding on platforms, provide waiting areas, and ensure safe boarding.
Record Infrastructure Expansion Boosts Festive Travel
The commendable performance of Indian Railways comes amid unprecedented infrastructure growth. In the past decade, annual track construction has soared from a meager 400–600 km to over 4,000 km per year, reflecting the government’s strong focus on upgrading rail connectivity.
Similarly, the number of special trains introduced during festive seasons has seen a dramatic increase—from just a few hundred earlier to the highest number ever recorded this year. This expansion has enabled lakhs of passengers to secure confirmed tickets and travel comfortably during peak rush periods.
Special Arrangements Ensure Safe and Comfortable Journeys
Railway officials and staff are working 24×7 to manage the festive rush, provide assistance to elderly and differently-abled passengers, and maintain punctual services. At major stations such as Patna, Danapur, and Rajendra Nagar Terminal, several initiatives have been rolled out:
-
Dedicated holding areas with seating and amenities
-
Extra ticket counters and enquiry booths
-
CCTV-enabled round-the-clock monitoring
-
Ambulances and medical teams on standby
-
Enhanced sanitation and waste management services
At Patna station, special monitoring rooms have been activated to track passenger flow. Danapur station has introduced 24×7 medical emergency arrangements, reflecting the Railways’ focus on passenger safety during Chhath Puja.
Vande Bharat Services Add Festive Cheer
To cater to the rising demand, Indian Railways is operating 156 Vande Bharat Express trains across the country, with a special Vande Bharat service running between New Delhi and Patna during the Chhath festival. In a unique initiative, traditional Chhath melodies were played aboard the train and at select stations, creating a festive atmosphere and delighting passengers.
Passengers Express Satisfaction with Improved Rail Services
Passengers across various stations shared overwhelmingly positive feedback, praising Indian Railways for clean coaches, hygienic food, timely train schedules, and well-maintained platforms. A traveler at Jamalpur station said that due to the additional special trains, there was no crowding and the journey was peaceful. Another passenger appreciated the spiritual ambience created by the musical arrangements at stations.
A female passenger traveling from Delhi acknowledged that her family received confirmed tickets without any difficulty, highlighting the effectiveness of the crowd management strategy. Others praised the improved bedding quality, onboard hospitality, and the efforts of railway staff who ensured a hassle-free journey.
Commitment to Festive Travel Excellence
Indian Railways has demonstrated its dedication to passenger convenience through strategic planning, advanced logistics, and enhanced service delivery. The creation of holding areas, deployment of medical teams, and continuous staff support reflect the organization’s focus on safe and reliable travel for millions of citizens returning home to celebrate with their families.
With rising demand during the festive season, Indian Railways continues to set new benchmarks in service quality, operational efficiency, and passenger satisfaction. As the Railways moves towards crossing the 2.5 crore passenger mark this season, it stands as a symbol of national connectivity and inclusiveness—delivering not just transportation, but a seamless festive journey filled with comfort, safety, and happiness.
