Chandigarh: Bank of India, one of the country’s leading public sector banks, has observed July 2025 as ‘Kisan Mah,’ culminating in the celebration of Kisan Diwas on July 19 to mark Bank Nationalisation Day. To commemorate the vital role of agriculture and the farming community in India’s economy, the bank has rolled out a massive pan-India outreach initiative aimed at strengthening rural financial inclusion and boosting agricultural credit.
The Mega Outreach Program, launched across key states including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana, underscores Bank of India’s commitment to farmers. The event witnessed the presence of top leadership, including Mr. Rajneesh Karnatak, Managing Director and CEO, Executive Directors Shri P.R. Rajagopal, Shri Rajiv Mishra, and Shri Subrat Kumar, alongside Chief General Managers and General Managers. Their participation reinforced the bank’s mission to support agricultural growth and socio-economic development across rural India.
Week-Long Nationwide Engagement
The program, spanning from July 19 to July 25, 2025, is designed to reach out to farmers through interactive sessions, credit sanction letter distribution, and awareness campaigns on government-backed schemes. These efforts aim to empower farmers with better access to credit, financial literacy, and modern banking services tailored to their needs.
A significant focus of the initiative is on Kisan Credit Cards (KCC), a critical financial tool for farmers to meet their credit requirements effectively. Alongside KCC distribution, the outreach program is extending credit support for self-help groups (SHGs), dairy, poultry, fishery, and financing for tractors and agricultural implements. The bank is also facilitating loans for cold storage, warehouse infrastructure, and agro-food processing units such as rice mills and pulse mills, thereby enabling value addition and enhancing productivity in the agriculture sector.
Driving Financial Inclusion
In addition to credit distribution, the outreach initiative is promoting digital banking adoption, with seminars and financial literacy camps being organized to educate farmers about cashless transactions, mobile banking, and other digital solutions. Special agri clinics are being conducted to assist farmers in understanding customized financial products and services designed for agriculture and allied activities.
The bank is actively enrolling beneficiaries under government-sponsored schemes, including Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives and other agricultural development programs. These efforts aim to empower rural communities with financial independence while supporting the government’s vision of a self-reliant India.
Focus on Rural Prosperity
Bank of India’s leadership emphasized that the outreach is not just about disbursing loans but also about building sustainable relationships with farmers and addressing their evolving needs. The bank’s focus on infrastructure financing—from storage and logistics to agro-processing—highlights its holistic approach to boosting the rural economy.
“Indian agriculture is the backbone of our economy, and farmers are our priority stakeholders. Through initiatives like Kisan Mah and Kisan Diwas, we reaffirm our commitment to enabling their progress with innovative financial solutions,” said Mr. Rajneesh Karnatak, MD & CEO of Bank of India.
Strengthening Agricultural Growth
The initiative comes at a time when agriculture remains central to India’s economic stability and growth. By offering credit facilities and awareness about modern banking services, Bank of India aims to bridge the rural-urban financial divide and empower farmers to adopt technology-driven farming methods.
Through its nationwide presence, the bank is also focusing on building a robust ecosystem of financial services for allied sectors such as dairy and fisheries, ensuring that farmers engaged in diversified activities also receive tailored support.
Commitment to the Farming Community
The month-long celebrations of Kisan Mah and the culmination on Kisan Diwas mark Bank of India’s tribute to the farming community. By commemorating Bank Nationalisation Day (July 19), the bank underlines the significance of its public-sector legacy in extending credit to underserved segments, particularly in rural areas.
Looking forward, Bank of India plans to expand its portfolio of agri-finance products while leveraging digital platforms to reach more farmers efficiently. The bank has pledged to remain proactive in fostering rural prosperity and contributing to the government’s long-term agricultural development goals.
