New Delhi: Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), C-DAC, Indian Toy Industries and LEGO Group celebrated the Convocation Ceremony of the 2nd batch of engineering graduates who have spent a year training under the project ‘Development of Electronics and IT-based Control and Automation Solutions for Consumer Electronic Goods (Toy Industry)’. The project is a tailor-made initiative of R&D group of the Ministry to foster the growth of the Indian electronic toys industry by developing prototypes and equipping young engineers, including from under-represented communities, with the skills needed to design such toys.

Under this MeitY initiative, young engineers were selected from across India from SC/ST and NER background and engaged in R&D activities for a year, gaining hands-on experience in designing and developing electronic toys for first six months working and learning in the e-toys lab at C-DAC-Noida followed by a six-month training in the industry to create toys prototype based on industry needs. The participants were provided with a monthly stipend of Rs. 25,000 for one year.

This convocation ceremony, held on 29rd November 2025 at MeitY was attended by Shri Amitesh Kumar Sinha, Addl. Secretary, MeitY, Smt. Sunita Verma, GC R&D in MeitY, Shri. Vivek Khaneja, ED, C-DAC, Noida, Shri. Anirban Gupta, Toys Association of India, Director, GPA, LEGO Group in India, Members from electronics toys industry.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) marked a significant milestone in its journey to build a robust and inclusive indigenous electronic toy industry with the Convocation Ceremony of the second batch of engineers trained under the ‘Development of Electronics and IT-based Control and Automation Solutions for Consumer Electronic Goods (Toy Industry)’ project.

The event, held on November 29, 2025, at MeitY, celebrated the graduation of 18 young engineers who completed a year of specialized R&D training. These engineers, selected from across India, including those from SC/ST and North Eastern Region (NER) backgrounds, are now poised to become catalysts for innovation in the domestic toy sector.

🔬 e-Toys Lab Inaugurated at C-DAC Noida

A key highlight of the ceremony was the inauguration of the Electronic Toys Lab set up at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Noida, by Shri Amitesh Kumar Sinha, Additional Secretary, MeitY.

Speaking at the ceremony, Shri Sinha emphasized the critical role of electronics and IT in shaping the future of the Indian toy industry. “India is a growing market of electronic toys, and to build the Indian toys industry ecosystem, Electronics and IT can play a crucial role. I am very happy that the building blocks for it are getting created and the next generation of engineers are working towards it,” he stated.

He also outlined a vision for the project’s future, suggesting that “This program can be formalized in a bigger way to cater more students and more impact in overall promotion of the Toy industries.” Furthermore, he announced that the Centre of Excellence (CoE) for e-Toys at C-DAC-Noida will be expanded to onboard other institutions like NIELIT and MSH, with a strong focus on fostering entrepreneurship and startups in the electronic toy space.

💡 A Year of Hands-on Innovation

The ‘Electronic Toys Project’ is a tailor-made initiative by MeitY’s R&D group, executed in collaboration with C-DAC, the Indian Toy Industries, and the LEGO Group. It is specifically designed to foster the growth of the industry by developing prototypes and equipping young talent with the essential skills for modern electronic toy design.

The graduates spent their training year immersed in high-level research and development. The first six months involved hands-on learning and prototyping in the newly inaugurated e-toys lab at C-DAC-Noida. This phase was followed by a crucial six-month industry training period, where the engineers collaborated with toy manufacturers to create prototypes based on real-world industry needs.

To support their commitment and work, all participants were provided with a monthly stipend of Rs. 25,000 for the duration of the one-year training. The project stands as a shining example of government, academia, and industry cooperation aimed at promoting skilling and innovation.

🎉 Industry and Government Laud Initiative

The convocation ceremony saw the attendance of senior officials and industry leaders, including Smt. Sunita Verma, GC R&D in MeitY; Shri. Vivek Khaneja, Executive Director, C-DAC, Noida; Shri. Anirban Gupta, from the Toys Association of India; and the Director, GPA, LEGO Group in India, along with representatives from various electronics toy manufacturers. The collective presence underscored the national importance and multi-stakeholder support for this initiative.

The project not only contributes to the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision by creating high-quality indigenous electronic toys but also champions inclusive growth by prioritizing talent from under-represented communities. As the newly certified engineers step into the industry, they carry with them the promise of a self-reliant and technologically advanced Indian toy ecosystem.

“I wish the graduating students all the very best for their future,” concluded Shri Sinha, signaling a bright outlook for the future of electronic toy design and manufacturing in India.
