New Delhi — In his 12th consecutive Independence Day address from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi outlined an ambitious roadmap for India’s transformation over the next two decades. Marking the nation’s 79th Independence Day, the Prime Minister made a series of high-impact announcements spanning technology, energy, employment, and governance reforms — signalling India’s intent to leapfrog into the ranks of developed nations by 2047, when the country will celebrate its centenary of independence.

With the tricolour fluttering high and the Red Fort packed with dignitaries, schoolchildren, and citizens, PM Modi’s address struck a note of urgency and determination. “Bharat will define its own destiny, set its own terms,” he declared, underscoring his government’s commitment to self-reliance and strategic strength.

Semiconductors: A Leap from Lost Opportunities to Global Competitiveness

PM Modi recalled how early attempts to establish semiconductor manufacturing in India — almost 50 to 60 years ago — were “killed at birth,” even as other nations surged ahead in the technology race. To reverse that historical setback, he announced that India’s first Made in India semiconductor chip will be rolled out by the end of 2025.

Calling semiconductors the “brain of the modern economy,” the Prime Minister said this mission would put India on the global electronics map, reduce import dependence, and strengthen strategic autonomy in critical technologies.

Nuclear Energy: Tenfold Expansion by 2047

In a significant step towards energy security, PM Modi revealed that work is underway on 10 new nuclear reactors as part of a plan to increase India’s nuclear power capacity by more than ten times in the next two decades.

The expansion, he said, is aimed at meeting the energy demands of a rapidly growing economy while cutting carbon emissions. “By 2047, nuclear energy will play a central role in powering a clean, modern Bharat,” he stated.

GST Reforms: A Diwali Gift to the Nation

Promising relief for households, small businesses, and consumers, PM Modi announced that next-generation GST reforms will be unveiled on Diwali 2025. These reforms will lower taxes on essential goods and bring additional relief to MSMEs and local vendors, reducing compliance burdens and boosting demand.

“This festive season, the people of Bharat will receive not just lights and sweets, but the gift of economic relief,” he remarked.

Reform Task Force: Building a $10 Trillion Economy

To accelerate India’s journey towards a $10 trillion economy, the Prime Minister declared the creation of a Reform Task Force with a mandate to implement next-generation reforms. The focus areas will include:

  • Cutting red tape

  • Modernising governance structures

  • Improving the ease of doing business

  • Attracting global investments

“This task force will ensure our governance systems are ready for the demands of Bharat@2047,” PM Modi said.

₹1 Lakh Crore PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana

In what he termed a bridge from “Swatantra Bharat to Samriddha Bharat,” PM Modi launched the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, a ₹1 lakh crore employment initiative targeting 3 crore young Indians.

Under the scheme, newly employed youth will receive ₹15,000 per month, aimed at easing their transition into the workforce and spurring job creation across sectors. “Our youth are our biggest asset — this is an investment in their potential,” the Prime Minister said.

High-Powered Demography Mission: Safeguarding National Security

Drawing attention to the challenges posed by infiltration and illegal migration in border states, PM Modi announced the launch of a High-Powered Demography Mission.

The mission will work to address demographic imbalances that threaten national security and ensure the unity, integrity, and rights of India’s citizens. “We will not allow demographic changes to weaken Bharat’s social fabric,” he affirmed.

Energy Independence: Launch of National Deepwater Exploration Mission

Highlighting that a significant share of India’s budget is still spent on importing petrol, diesel, and gas, PM Modi unveiled the National Deepwater Exploration Mission. This initiative will explore and harness ocean resources while expanding capacity in solar, hydrogen, hydro, and nuclear power.

“This is our Samudra Manthan for the 21st century — to extract the energy that will power Bharat’s future,” he said.

Made in India Jet Engines: A National Challenge

In a move reminiscent of India’s rapid domestic vaccine production during the COVID-19 pandemic, PM Modi issued a national call to build indigenous jet engines.

“Just as we created UPI to revolutionise digital payments, we can create our own jet engines for our skies,” he said, urging scientists, engineers, and youth innovators to accept the challenge and make India self-reliant in advanced aerospace technology.

A Defining Blueprint for the Next 22 Years

PM Modi’s address stitched together themes of technological sovereignty, energy security, employment generation, and governance reforms, all converging on the vision of Bharat@2047.

From cutting-edge semiconductor fabrication to next-generation nuclear power, from high-skilled job creation to defence manufacturing, the announcements collectively form a national development blueprint.

“The road ahead is ours to shape. We will walk it with confidence, determination, and unity,” the Prime Minister concluded, drawing applause from the assembled crowd and millions watching across the country.

As the celebrations closed with patriotic fervour, one message was clear — India’s 79th Independence Day was not just a commemoration of the past, but a rallying point for the future.

Key Highlights:

  • First Made in India Semiconductor Chip to roll out by end-2025.
