Focus on Future of Mobility, Clean Tech, and Deep Tech Innovations
New Delhi: In a significant boost to India’s innovation ecosystem, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hero MotoCorp Limited to support and scale early-stage startups under the company’s innovation accelerator programme, ‘Hero For Startups’.
The partnership, under the Startup India initiative, aims to accelerate the growth of startups working in future mobility, clean technology, and deep technology—sectors critical to India’s sustainable and industrial growth.
Comprehensive Support for Startups
Through this MoU, selected startups will gain exclusive access to Hero MotoCorp’s world-class R&D facilities in both Germany and India, providing them with an advanced infrastructure for product design, testing, and validation.
Additionally, startups will be able to leverage Hero’s extensive dealer, supplier, and partner network, enabling them to reach markets more quickly and efficiently. One of the key highlights of the programme is the opportunity for startups to work on paid Proofs of Concept (PoCs). These pilots will not only validate their innovations but also offer valuable market exposure, paving the way for commercial success.
Mentorship will be a core part of the programme, connecting startups with industry veterans and subject matter experts to guide them through product development, go-to-market strategies, and scaling operations.
Strengthening Industry–Startup Collaboration
Speaking at the signing event, Shri Sanjiv, Joint Secretary, DPIIT, emphasised the importance of the partnership in strengthening India’s startup ecosystem.
“By connecting industry experience with grassroots innovation, we aim to fast-track the journey from idea to impact, especially in emerging technologies and Tier 2/3 markets,” he said.
“This collaboration with Hero MotoCorp will strengthen DPIIT’s commitment to enabling product-focused startups that are solving India’s mobility challenges.”
The collaboration aligns with India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat missions by creating industrial solutions developed within the country and scaled for global competitiveness.
Industry Leader’s Commitment to Nation-Building
Dr. Pawan Munjal, Executive Chairman, Hero MotoCorp, highlighted the company’s vision of being more than just a market leader in mobility.
“We see ourselves not just as an industry leader, but as a nation-builder, aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 articulated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi,” Dr. Munjal said.
“India’s vibrant startup ecosystem is a vital force in shaping a self-reliant and globally competitive Bharat. Our partnership with DPIIT reflects our commitment to nurturing this entrepreneurial spirit.”
Hero MotoCorp’s extensive market presence and experience in product innovation are expected to give startups a significant competitive edge in commercialising their solutions.
Formalising the Partnership
The MoU was formally signed by Dr. Sumeet Jarangal, Director, DPIIT, and Shri Utkarsh Mishra, Global Innovation Portfolio Lead, Hero MotoCorp, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.
The agreement marks a new chapter in public–private collaboration, focusing on innovation-led industrial growth and fostering entrepreneurial capacity across India.
Potential Impact on Emerging Sectors
The focus areas—future mobility, clean tech, and deep tech—are aligned with India’s long-term goals for sustainability, industrial competitiveness, and technological leadership.
-
Future Mobility: Startups could work on solutions in electric vehicles (EVs), battery technologies, shared mobility platforms, autonomous driving, and connected vehicle ecosystems.
-
Clean Technology: Innovations in renewable energy integration, waste-to-energy systems, energy storage, and sustainable manufacturing practices could receive critical support.
-
Deep Technology: Startups focusing on artificial intelligence, advanced materials, IoT-enabled systems, and robotics could find the infrastructure and expertise needed to bring their ideas to life.
Driving Growth in Tier 2 and Tier 3 Markets
A unique emphasis of this partnership will be identifying and nurturing talent in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. These regions are emerging as new hubs for innovation, driven by improved infrastructure, affordable living costs, and access to local talent pools.
By connecting grassroots-level innovations with Hero MotoCorp’s global infrastructure, DPIIT aims to create inclusive pathways for entrepreneurship, ensuring that innovation is not limited to metropolitan centres.
Aligned with National Vision
The initiative is directly tied to Viksit Bharat@2047, the Government of India’s vision for a developed nation by 2047, and is designed to help India emerge as a global leader in advanced manufacturing and sustainable mobility solutions.
With India aiming to become a $5 trillion economy, partnerships like these play a crucial role in building an ecosystem where startups can rapidly evolve into globally competitive enterprises.
Conclusion:
The DPIIT–Hero MotoCorp MoU is more than just an agreement—it is a strategic alliance to transform India’s innovation landscape. By combining government-led policy support with industry-led resources and expertise, the partnership is set to create a new generation of globally competitive Indian startups that will lead in mobility, sustainability, and deep technology.
