Strategic partnership to enable direct chlorine pipeline supply, enhance supply chain efficiency, and strengthen green manufacturing capabilities
Chandigarh: In a major move to expand its presence in Northern and Eastern India, Shivtek Spechemi Industries Ltd, a flagship company of the Shiva Group of Industries and a leading specialty chemicals manufacturer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bodal Chemicals Ltd for the acquisition of approximately 8 acres of land in Rajpura, Punjab.
The ₹50 crore investment will fund both land acquisition and the development of Phase I and Phase II of Shivtek’s upcoming state-of-the-art specialty chemical manufacturing facility.
Strategic Location with Sustainable Advantages
The new plant will be built adjacent to Bodal Chemicals’ existing facility in Rajpura. This proximity will allow Shivtek to directly access chlorine — a key raw material — via a dedicated pipeline supply, significantly reducing logistics costs, improving operational safety, and cutting carbon emissions.
The Rajpura site was selected as part of Shivtek’s strategic plan to strengthen its product portfolio and expand market access in northern and eastern parts of India, while improving export competitiveness.
Product Portfolio and Market Relevance
The upcoming facility will focus on producing:
-
Chlorinated Paraffin – widely used in plastics, rubber, and leather industries.
-
Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) – a performance polymer used in cables, hoses, and automotive components.
-
Green Plasticizers – sustainable alternatives to traditional phthalate-based plasticizers.
The demand for eco-friendly and high-performance specialty materials is rising globally, driven by regulatory shifts and sustainability preferences. Shivtek aims to position the Rajpura plant as a hub for eco-conscious product innovation, aligned with its long-term green chemistry roadmap and vertical integration strategy.
Leadership Perspectives
Speaking on the strategic acquisition, Dr. Amitt Nenwani, Managing Director, Shivtek Spechemi Industries Ltd, said:
“We are excited to partner exclusively with Bodal Chemicals as this partnership reflects a shared vision between Shivtek and Bodal to build future-ready, efficient, and green chemical ecosystems. Rajpura is a strategic choice for Shivtek. Not only does it offer strong demand potential in the region, but its proximity to Bodal’s chlorine facility will allow us to reduce logistics costs, carbon emissions, and enhance sustainability. This plant marks the first phase of our multi-stage expansion. The 8-acre land parcel has been acquired not just for the current facility but also to accommodate future expansions — further strengthening our commitment to green innovation and regional growth.”
For Bodal Chemicals, the arrangement is equally beneficial, ensuring an efficient offtake of chlorine, a byproduct of its caustic soda operations.
Mr. Ankit Patel, Executive Director, Bodal Chemicals Ltd, commented:
“This MoU is a win-win for both parties. It supports our chlorine offtake via a safe and sustainable pipeline, ensures uninterrupted operations, and strengthens our long-term growth path. This collaboration was less about land monetization and more about synergy between two progressive chemical companies.”
Strengthening National Manufacturing Network
The Rajpura facility will complement Shivtek’s existing manufacturing hubs in Dahej (West) and Kurnool (South), creating a pan-India production network. This tri-location presence will:
-
Enable faster deliveries to customers in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi NCR, and other northern and eastern states.
-
Improve export readiness for neighboring countries, subject to trade agreements.
-
Reduce logistics bottlenecks through regionalized production.
Sustainability and Compliance at the Core
Shivtek has committed to integrating advanced sustainability practices at the Rajpura plant, including:
-
Solar Power Integration – for reducing reliance on conventional energy sources.
-
Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) Systems – ensuring no untreated effluent is released.
-
Advanced Emission Control – meeting and exceeding regulatory norms for air and water quality.
The facility will adhere to Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF) guidelines and other relevant environmental regulations.
Employment and Local Economic Impact
The project is expected to create significant local employment opportunities in manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and administrative functions during Phase I, with further hiring anticipated during future expansions. This will directly contribute to the economic development of the Rajpura region.
Implementation Timeline
The commissioning of the plant will be contingent on receiving requisite environmental and operational clearances from the MoEF. Operations are projected to commence by end of 2026 or Q4 FY27.
A Step Toward Becoming South Asia’s Green Chemical Leader
The collaboration with Bodal Chemicals represents a milestone in Shivtek’s ambition to become a leading green specialty chemical manufacturer in South Asia. By combining strategic location advantages, sustainable manufacturing technologies, and synergistic industry partnerships, Shivtek is positioning itself for long-term growth in both domestic and global markets.
