Chandigarh: In a major stride towards bolstering India’s aerospace manufacturing footprint, Bharat Forge Ltd. (BFL), a global leader in advanced forging and precision engineering, announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art ring mill facility dedicated exclusively to aerospace applications. The decision follows the company’s recent contract with Pratt & Whitney Canada to supply critical aerospace components — a deal that not only solidifies Bharat Forge’s standing in the international aerospace ecosystem but also underlines India’s rising profile in high-value manufacturing.

✈️ A Leap into Aerospace Precision Manufacturing

The upcoming ring mill will be a specialized, high-performance facility that focuses on producing precision-forged components for aero-engine applications. The plant will employ cutting-edge technologies, including high-speed radial-axial ring rolling machines, real-time inspection systems, and automation-driven traceability infrastructure. These elements are critical in the aerospace sector where tolerances are tight, quality standards are unforgiving, and traceability is paramount.

Designed to meet stringent global aerospace quality standards, the new mill will play a pivotal role in supplying rotor rings and structural components for both commercial and military aerospace programs, aligning perfectly with the increasing demand for more efficient and durable aviation engine parts.

The facility is expected to become operational by 2026, and once fully functional, it will cater to both domestic and international aerospace markets, supporting flagship programs of major engine OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) around the globe.

🤝 Strengthening Global Partnerships

The decision to establish the ring mill was closely tied to BFL’s newly signed contract with Pratt & Whitney Canada, a globally reputed engine manufacturer. Under this agreement, Bharat Forge will supply key components for aero-engines, marking a deepening of strategic ties between the two companies.

Amit Kalyani, Vice-Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Bharat Forge Ltd., expressed his enthusiasm about the development, stating:

“We are excited to deepen our strategic relationship with Pratt & Whitney Canada through the establishment of this new ring mill. It not only reinforces our commitment to the global aerospace ecosystem but also marks a significant step in advancing India’s manufacturing capabilities in high-value aerospace components.”

Echoing this sentiment, Frédéric Lefebvre, Vice President of Supply Chain at Pratt & Whitney Canada, highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership:

“This underscores our commitment to building a resilient global supply chain and advancing India’s aerospace ecosystem. Pratt & Whitney has been present in India for more than seven decades and has more than 800 employees who contribute to developing the next generation of dependable engines.”

This collaboration highlights the increasing global trust in Indian manufacturing, particularly in mission-critical sectors like aerospace.

🇮🇳 Driving India’s Aerospace Vision

India has been steadily working to position itself as a global hub for aerospace manufacturing, and Bharat Forge’s latest move is well-aligned with this national vision. The establishment of the ring mill reflects the company’s commitment to “Make in India for the World,” a philosophy echoed by several Indian industrial majors striving to expand their global relevance.

The advanced ring mill is expected to:

  • Generate high-skilled jobs in precision engineering and aerospace technology.

  • Boost exports by supplying components to global aviation leaders.

  • Enhance India’s capability in indigenous aerospace manufacturing.

  • Support strategic defence and commercial aerospace programs.

🔧 Bharat Forge: An Aerospace Powerhouse in the Making

Bharat Forge has long been known for its technological edge in the automotive and industrial sectors, but over the last decade, it has made strategic investments in defence and aerospace, developing a strong presence in forging, machining, and component manufacturing for these high-value industries.

This upcoming facility will integrate seamlessly into Bharat Forge’s global aerospace value chain, joining its aerospace units in Pune and other key locations, which already produce forged and machined products for international aerospace majors.

Furthermore, Bharat Forge’s vertical integration strategy — from forging to machining to heat treatment and surface finishing — ensures that the company can offer end-to-end solutions for customers, making it a preferred partner for many aerospace OEMs.

🛫 Future-Ready Infrastructure for a Thriving Industry

The investment in the new ring mill is a strategic step, especially at a time when global aviation is rebounding post-COVID and defence modernization is accelerating. As nations look to de-risk and diversify their supply chains, India — with its growing industrial base and cost advantages — has become an attractive partner.

With this project, Bharat Forge not only strengthens its own positioning in the global aerospace supply chain but also contributes meaningfully to India’s ambition of becoming a top-tier aerospace manufacturing destination.
